On December 6th the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (cms) issued a memorandum entitled “End of AEP Processing” to all Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plan sponsers. The memo states that “CMS Iis providing additional flexibility to current Enrollment Guidance to ensure that all enrollment requests submitted during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) are processed.” It notes two “flexibilities” that are being provided:
1. Paper Enrollment Applications Postmarked by December 8th
2. Calls to SHIPs or Plan Sponsers Made By the Close of Business on December 7th, But Enrollments not Processed By Then. (Please note that this would only include call backs to beneficiaries whom sponsers, SHIPs and other partners were not able to assist on or before December 7th due to high call volumes or difficulty in accessing CMS On-line).
Sponsers, SHIPs and other partners must return calls and obtain completed enrollment requests by midnight local time on Saturday, December 10th.

The Medicare Summary Notice, also known as an MSN, is a quarterly report of Medicare services received by beneficiaries. The MSN lists detailed information about the beneficiary’s Medicare claims. MSN’s are mailed to beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Part A and/or Part B.
Remember that your Medicare Summary Notice(MSN) is NOT a bill.
Utilizing your MSN to Detect Errors, Fraud and Waste:
Protecting your personal information is the first line of defense against fraud. Shred MSN statements when they are no longer needed.
Reviewing your MSN is one of the best ways that you can help detect potential errors and fraud. Immediatelyopen and read your MSN statement to make sure that you have received all of the services listed.
Personal Health Care Journals can be obtain from your local SMP, to keep a record of medical visits, tests, receipts for services and equipment you have received.
Be aware that although Medicare only mails MSN’s every three months, you can view your MSN’s 24 hours a day by visiting www.mymedicare.gov. Registering for Medicare’s free, secure service allows you to review all claims processed within the past 15 months. You may also contact your local MedAssurance representative for additional assistance.
